The quarter-scale vehicle is a smaller, lighter, two passenger vehicle intended for applications such as tourist attractions, college campuses, and urban transit in locations where a full size system is not feasible. We plan to develop the quarter scale technology prior to developing the full size technology. This will allow us to have an entry into profitable transportation ventures without the more substantial start up costs associated with the full-size system.
On 15 June 2015, SpaceX announced that they would sponsor a Hyperloop pod design competition, and would build a 1-mile-long (1.6 km) sub scale test track near SpaceX’s headquarters in Hawthorne California, for the competitive event. By July more than 700 teams had submitted preliminary applications.
We plan to sponsor a similar competition and invite students to design and build quarter-scale vehicles. The competition would take place at our prototype rail in Costa Rica.
